"I created Harmony Arboriculture after spending over ten years working for other companies undertaking tree work operations. I wanted to be able to carry out the tree work I wanted and offer a wide range of services to customers. What is important to me is the promotion of ecological and environmental arboriculture and reducing the negative impact that tree work sometimes has on the habitats of associated plants and animals. By combining caring for trees with caring for the local wildlife population I believe a successful and beneficial balance can be achieved."

About arboriculture

  • Whereas forestry, or silviculture as it is professionally called, has always traditionally been about the production of timber, arboriculture has always been about the management of trees for other reasons such as aesthetics and health. Good arboricultural practice is regulated by a number of authorities including the National Proficiency Test Council, British Standards, Heath and Safety Executive and the Arboricultural Association.

  • About habitats and ecological tree care

  • The last few years has seen an increase in the study and practice of tree work that is sympathetic to the needs and requirements of the surrounding ecosystems. Where, at one time, a tree would have been felled for health and safety reasons, it can now be maintained and managed so it still provides not only a landscape feature, but an important habitat and food source. Even dead trees can be safely turned into a standing monolith which maintains ecological value to its surroundings.

One of the services that Harmony Arboriculture can provide is the selection, supply and fitting of a wide range of habitat boxes for birds, bats and small mammals. Specialist pruning techniques can also be used as an alternative to tree removal in order to make a tree as inviting to wildlife as possible.

  • About wildlife gardening

  • Wildlife friendly gardening utilises a range of ideas in order to attract different species of wildlife into your garden. This not only adds a great variety and interest to the garden, but also benefits local biodiversity and provides a safe haven for animals that may be facing decline due to loss of habitat caused by urbanisation.
